YogaSlackers take old pastime to new level

So, you think you’re a pretty pro slackliner, huh? Well, have you ever tried doing yoga on a slackline? Seems crazy, right? Not to this group of dedicated enthusiasts.

While the prospect of contorting one’s body in seemingly impossible and certainly uncomfortable ways doesn’t sound like a walk

A YogaSlacker team member strikes a warrior pose while suspended on a slackline. (

in the park for some, throw a slackline in there and you’ve got a recipe for some real fun.

Enter Team YogaSlackers. These people combine traditional yoga with slacklining, acrobatics and Thai massage in some sort of crazy hybrid called AcroYoga.

According to their Web site, AcroYoga blends the spiritual wisdom of yoga, the loving kindness of Thai massage and the dynamic power of acrobatics into a foundation of a unique new practice that cultivates trust, connection and playfulness.

Confused? Yeah, I was too. So I checked out the videos on their Web site and did some reading. It’s really cool. The idea of balancing on a slackline alone seems impossible to me. I’ve tried it and within seconds I was growing quite a rapport with the ground.

But add yoga to the mix, and I was truly dumbfounded. Spills are expected, of course, but what these people manage to do on what’s essentially just a rope is pretty amazing. And once you watch a few videos, you begin to realize there really is no other way to describe it other than AcroYoga.

But don’t just take my word for it, go check it out!
