Summer Retreats

26 07 2010

It’s summetime!… and lately we have been fortunate enough to have a streak of warm weather, and besides the dozens of outdoor activities that Riverhouse has to offer, Eugene is home to numerous outdoor locations where one can enjoy a warm summer afternoon.

One neat place that I have recently visited are the Rockslides at Triangle Lake, which are approximatley an hour away from the UofO campus off highway 99. This destination features a huge flat rock with water cascading over it which you can slide down on your bottom, on a tube or even on your feet for the brave at heart. Make sure to bring proper footwear because the rocks are slippery!
If you are looking for a place closer to home, Amazon Pool located at 2600 Hilyard Street is a more family friendly spot featuring a 50-meter x 25-yard pool complete with a diving board, and also a beginner pool with a play structure and water slide. The pool has certain hours for lap swim and recreation swimming, and is quite affordable. The hours and prices can be found on their website at Amazon Pool Website.

Lastly, many of us do not realize the abundance of farms on the edge of town which allow folks to come pick berries in abundance during the summer months. The Blueberry Patch is a farm, of course, which is known for their blueberries located 5 miles west of Vida. The berries are priced at $1.50 a pound, about half the price that one would find at a local grocery store.
