Willamette River Closure at I-5 Bridge

6 07 2011

It is true. The Oregon State Marine Board along with Lane Country Sheriff Marine Patrol and Eugene and Springfield EMS closed the Willamette River at the section through the I-5 construction bridge. It was a prudent decision. It is unknown when but, it will be reopened when river levels drop, debris can be removed and possibly an alternative channel identified.

If you are planning on boating the Willamette river be sure to make preparations to avoid the I-5 bridge .  I myself have been through this channel earlier this spring and the hazards are real.  Our programs will be taking out at the “D” Street boat ramp and putting in at the Alton Baker boat ramp to avoid this section.  We look forward to the bridge section reopening and being able to boat our “fun” run on the Willamette.

Check out the link below to the KMTR news segment for their weekends broadcast about the closure.

Water users adjust to Willamette River I5 bridge closure, while others float through.
