Announcing Our Staff In The Spotlight!

16 02 2012

The River House Outdoor Program is pleased to announce Kirsten Kelso as our  “Staff in the Spotlight”.  Kirsten Kelso is appreciated for her kindness, ability to listen, and competence!  She has become an integral part of our team with her wide array of skills and abilities.  Kirsten seamlessly flows between different programs and proves herself as a leader and competent instructor whether she is on the Challenge Course, belaying participants at the Columns, or teaching a group of 1st graders about the water cycle.  Kirsten is a true leader with her ability to take charge of a situation or step back when there are other competent leaders wanting to step forward to try a hand at leading too.  Kirsten, thank you for all the hard work you do.  We appreciate you so much here at the River House!

How did you get involved with the River House Outdoor Program?

My first involvement was taking the challenge course training. The training was stellar, and the staff was a group of strong, confident & committed individuals.  I couldn’t imagine not becoming a part of such a great program, working with wonderful people and doing what I enjoy in such a beautiful place.
What’s your favorite part about the River House Outdoor Program?

Getting to see the smiles on people’s faces when they have learned something about themselves and their world.
What’s something people might not know about the River House Outdoor Program that you’d like to share?

The River House offers a whole lot of really cool programs in all four seasons – jump on the bus and learn something new for yourself.
What are your goals for the River House Outdoor Program?

To see its programs continue to thrive, and for the entire Eugene community to know about its offerings.  It continues to amaze me how many people have never heard of the place!

What’s your favorite outdoor activity?

Watching my dog romp and play while we are out hiking together
What’s your favorite color? Book? Movie? Song? Sport?

Hands down, my favorite sport is obscure in these parts – field hockey. I’ve played, coached, officiated, and watched championship matches as far away as Ireland and Malaysia.  Of course, if it were played in Eugene I might not have found time for the River House…

What do you like to do in your free time?

If it’s raining; I really would rather be inside…quilting

What’s your most memorable experience at the River House?

The first time I walked into the building and I felt like Norm walking into the bar on Cheers, comfortable, at home with my peeps.
